Elisabeth Müller Werk 1978-2016
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Het Magisch Kwadraat' in Kunstruimte KuuB in May 2016 and provides an overview of Elisabeth Müller’s visual work from 1978–2016. In this book 1 the 30-part series “the Goldberg Variations” by J.S. Bach is included. The title of the exhibition is taken from the engraving 'Melencolia 1' by Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) which depicts, among other things, a 16-square, the 'Magic Square'. Thomas Mann, in his book 'Doctor Faustus', describes the workspaces of the main character, the composer Adrian Leverkühn, where this engraving hung on the wall above the piano. This 16-square is reflected in her visual work, it forms the basis of the 30-part series of paintings and of the painting 'Parsifal' from 2016. The two drawings from 2015 also have the 16-square as a basis.
